If you plan to visit 1000 islands from Canada, these are some of the attractions or places you may find interesting.
Gananoque is an Aboriginal name meaning town on two rivers.
Gananoque is about 3 hours drive from Toronto, Ontario. Gananoque is a quaint town located very close to Hwy 401. After exiting Hwy 401, follow the road (County Rd-32/Stone St N) and close to the corner of Gananoque's main street (King St. East), there is an OLG casino on the left (North East side of King St. East). Keep driving and you will be in the town's business area with motels, resorts, restaurants and stores.
The town is on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. The picturesque 1000 Islands can be cruised by boarding boat cruise from Gananoque or Kingston.
From what I had seen and experienced, it seems that the Gananoque Boat Line's boat is bigger and better.

Boldt Castle, Heart Island, New York
A little history behind Boldt Castle. Boldt Castle is on Heart Island, the castle is named after the man George Boldt. George Boldt was the son of poor parents and he came to America in the 1860's from Prussia. He became the most successful hotel magnate in America. The castle was built as a summer home to show the adoration of George Boldt to his wife, Louise. Louise was the love of his life.
The construction of the castle came to a halt when Mrs. Boldt passed away. The castle's construction was never completely finished, from 1904 until 1977 Boldt Castle continued to deteriorate until The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority assumed ownership in 1977. When I visited in 2006, the castle was undergoing renovations on above floors, I think the renovations should have completed by now.
The castle shows magnificent furnishings from furniture, light fixtures to draperies, the elegance of the castle of a by-gone era.
The Castle is open daily, starting early May to Mid October, the Castle opens longer from late June to early September.
The Boldt Castle Yacht House is open around Mid May to early October. Separate admission ticket is required to visit the Boldt Castle Yacht House.
The Yacht House is on Wellesley Island. There is a FREE shuttle boat from Heart Island (where Boldt Castle is) to this imposing structure.

Gananoque, Ontario Hotel & Spa Specials
Best Western Country Squire Resort
The Resort has 2 wings. Rooms on the outside wing (ie. close to parking entrance, opposite from the parking lot) are very basic room, small and pretty much a motel room with a small window in the bathroom.
Rooms on the inside wing (ie. wing entrance at the end of the parking lot) are much bigger with nice bedding and window coverings, the bathroom is bigger and nicer, the feeling is totally different, more fit for a resort.
The resort has a trampoline near the entrance on the side when I stayed, wondering the trampoline is still there.
The Resort offers In-door Swimming pool and Complimentary Hot Breakfast
